A big thank you to the Port Pirates Rugby Club and in particular John
Nicholson, Bruce Pearson, Peter Gerathy, Max and Catherine Webb, Peter
Bolster and Doug Piper for their work throughout the season.
Also a big thanks to our referees Steve Taylor, Tom Taylor, Richard
Tulloch and Keegan Hunter who did a great job. Also thanks to Andrew
Birch, Dave Rogers and Tom Gilbert who helped with refereeing at
different stages.
To the super 14 tipsters thanks again for your kind donation without
which we wouldn’t have junior rugby in Port at such an affordable
level.
Finally, thanks to our sponsors including our friendly coffee vendors Kiwi and Cheryl for your kind donation.
Our under 14’s and 16’s have 2 weeks remaining of the Super 8’s at Crescent Head.
Until next season.

Friday Night Junior Rugby 2008
The Port Macquarie Junior Rugby Club will again
be conducting its successful Friday night Rugby competition at Stuart
Park in 2008. The competition has been running for over 10 years and is
now one of the most successful of its kind in Australia, with over 350
players competing in 2007.
Teams are school based but players are required
to register individually with the Port Junior Rugby Club and the
Australian Rugby Union. Although every school in Port Macquaire
participated in 2007, If a school for some reason doesn't have enough
players for a team, players can still register and they will be
allocated to another team. Some schools had 2 teams in each age group
in 2007 and there were combined teams with players from Kempsey,
Wauchope and Laurieton also competing.
The competition caters for players from years 3
& 4 (under 10's), years 5 & 6 (Open Primary) as well as under
14 and 16 competitions for Secondary students.
For the convenience of players and parents all
matches are held at the same time and venue under lights at Stuart Park
with the under 10's kicking off at 5.30 pm, the Open Primary at 6.15 pm
and the under 14's and 16's at 7.00pm. Canteen facilities and Ports no.
1 mobile coffee machines are on hand for the convenience of parents and
spectators.
All matches are played under modified rules to
ensure maximium enjoyment, participation and safety and a strict code
of conduct is enforced for players, coaches and spectators to make sure
games are played in the true spirit of rugby.
This years season will commence with trial
matches in term 1 on Friday the 29th of March and 4th of April and the
competition will commence after the school holidays on Friday the 2nd
of May. Matches will be played each Friday night in term 2 (except for
the long weekend) and the final rounds and finals will be played early
in term 3. A full draw will be published after registrations and the
draw is flexible to cater for school camps and other activities they
may clash with the rugby.
Registration will be held at Stuart Park from 4pm to 5.30 pm on the following dates:
Thursday 21st February
Thursday 28th February
Thursday 6th March
Individual registration for 2008 will be $10 to
cover the increasing costs of ARU registration and insurance, lights,
referees, equipment and trophies. At $10 per player this still makes
rugby the most affordable sport in Australia.
