Port Pirates Ladies Day

With the 2007 rugby competition in full swing it’s not just the players enjoying a big season.

Whilst the Port Macquarie Pirates have been successful on the field so far in 2007, the W.A.G.S (Wives and Girlfriends) have been enjoying plenty of “off field” action as well at Stuart Park.

The Pirates have placed a large focus over the past few seasons ensuring game day equates to family day. Club President Peter Besseling explains “It’s a simple philosophy that has worked well for the club, if the WAGS and kids are happy to spend time at the rugby there’s less pressure on Dads, who don’t simply disappear every Saturday”. “In turn this means guys are less likely to simply retire from rugby when family life gets busy. One look at the average age of our third graders, and the invasion of kids they bring every Saturday is proof we have a working system”

Nikki Bailey (Dave) and Rosey Adams (Garry) are two wives who have made the most of a day at the rugby. With 7 small children between them it’s no small task to just leave the house, however said Nikki “I have been very impressed at the Rugby this year, there is a jumping castle at every home game, an enclosed play pen for the little ones and lots of kids running around having a good time. I think the Pirates have really made an effort, home games have turned into a great social event, Don’t tell Dave but I don’t actually think I’ve seen to much of him playing this year...”

Rosey Adams also sings praise on the Pirates efforts “The whole ground is fenced, the canteen has really lifted it’s game with a great selection for the kids, not to mention the odd nice drop of champas for me , it feels like the club really has families at heart, and it definitely beats sitting at home on a Saturday”

This Saturday June 23 the men are saying thank you to their girls, and are celebrating ladies day. There’s free bubbly and finger food on offer, along with some special “games” for those who attend. All Pirates partners, family and female supporters are welcome to attend for what promises to be a day packed with fun, laughs and friendship (and maybe some watching of rugby.. maybe !)

For catering purposes could any lady wishing to attend please RSVP to Kim Brown at cessnockhotel@optusnet.com.au by Thursday 21 June
